Tips over condoleren of herinneringen delen?
Dear Willem, Rita, Tineke and Tim,
Jill and I will always fondly remember Uncle Jaap for the wonderful things he did for us during our short visit to The Netherlands many years ago. He took us to the home where my family lived and the place where I was born, in Amstelveen. He showed us around the polders, and now whenever we see an egret, quite common in our part of the world, we often think of Jaap because he told us they were uncommon over there and he always enjoyed seeing them whenever he could. (He said this after Jill became so excited about seeing all the spoonbills, which we don’t get a chance to see where we live.) We took a tour through a ship that was very similar to the one that our distant ancestor, Gatze Andries, sailed in across the ocean. Jaap gave me a diagram of our family tree on my mother’s side that dates all the way back to the 16th century and told us some interesting stories about my Dutch ancestors. We will always remember Jaap as kind, generous and very interesting to listen to. He will not be forgotten.
With much love,
Andy and Jill Mark
