      • Too many memories
        reactie 36   |   niet OK
What to write about someone you have known all your life, with whom you have so many different memories.
Who was there for us on black days, as a support, with whom we had many beautiful moments, family holidays and in Monnickendam, like coming back home in Monnickendam because I was terrified while sitting on the back of your motorbike with you.
The huge pieces of apple pie at your mother's funeral.
Conversations in Amsterdam because I wanted to know more about things from the past whereby Willem could help me.
Memories one of the most special (and sometimes bizarre) combinations on your sandwich.
How you always "bulled" Kirsten and me with the fact that you were a real guy and our father a stuffed cake.

The mornings that you were sitting at 't Harde at the breakfast table when I brought Knús to mom and dad.

Willem, you have been there in so many phases in my life.
And now we say goodbye to you while I would have liked to take you along in a number of new phases, like meeting the man I love and drinking a glass in 'my' new garden.

We will continue to take good care of "our filled cake", your best buddy, my father and we keep our eyes on Madhuri and Wouter.

      • Hard worker but also a bon vivant
        reactie 35   |   niet OK
Willem has been part of our Family for several years.
As he was very passionate about his work, we never lacked discussion material.
He as well loved the beautiful side of live: we always ended our gathering by "tasting" and enjoying some good whiskeys.
One of his best social acts was driving my mother, who was then over 90 years old, around in his Saab Cabrio. She felt like a queen.....
        Dear Willem: Rest in peace!
We wish Madhuri, his Family and Friends a lot of strength with this great loss.

      • Connecting design from India and the Netherlands
        reactie 34   |   niet OK
It is with sadness that we learned of Willem's death.
There has always been a strong mutual commitment between Willem and the Association of Dutch Designers (BNO). The relationship started somewhere in the 1980s. Willem was then director of the 'Federatie van Kunstenaarsverenigingen': a (lobby) platform that advocated a good art and design policy. BNO was part of this federation and at the time its director Rob Huisman and Willem Woudenberg met regularly to exchange views on cultural policy, art education and the labour market for artists and designers.
In the 1990s, Willem made a switch to the commercial design world: he became partner and managing director at Eden Design & Communication (formerly BRS Premsela Vonk). A design agency that had a long history with BNO. Eden later on merged with the German agency Metadesign: the internationally oriented agency EdenSpiekermann was created.
Willem took his first steps in India, the country that was going to mean so much to him, during a design mission organised by the BNO/DDFA to the Design Yatra conference in Mumbai in 2009. Former BNO chairman and advisor international business Peter Kersten introduced him to several Indian design studios. After his departure from EdenSpiekermann, Willem decided to focus entirely on India, where he made a connection between the Dutch and the Indian creative industries. In 2011 he founded Brand Dialogue, an independent marketing and brand-design agency, located in Mumbai, Delhi and the Netherlands.
The connection with BNO remained; as an associate member of BNO Willem stayed in touch with the Dutch design community.
We will miss Willem. We wish his wife Madhuri Dass, his family and friends, both in India and in the Netherlands, a lot of strength.
On behalf of the BNO, Madeleine van Lennep and Rita van Hattum

Heb hem nooit horen klagen over mijn soms gemakzuchtige bijdrage. Hierin herkende ik zijn latere leiderschap. . Ben hem daar nog steeds dankbaar voor.

Willem was a part of our family, loved by all of us. His passing is a terrible loss. Few words can express my grief.

He made my daughter Madhuri very happy. I am hopeful, in time, she will recover from his loss.

        In grief, Lolita Dass

Willem had an adventurous spirit indeed. He hired me at Eden in Amsterdam, back in 2000 and in the course of the following years we worked on a lot of projects together. He definitely helped me to grow in the profession. With his energetic spirit and strong will, there was never a dull moment with Willem.
I wish his loved ones strength in these hard times.

Thank you, Willem. Rest in peace
